Terms of Service

Effective: October 25, 2026

These Terms are an agreement between you and OT in Context LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("OT in Context," "we," "us"). They cover your use of otincontext.com and the OT in Context app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Paid plans must be purchased by an adult.

2. Your account

Give accurate information when you sign up and keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Each account is for one person. Tell us at scott@otincontext.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.

3. Plans and features

The Service offers a free Standard plan and paid Plus and Pro plans. Current features and prices for each plan are listed on our pricing page. We add, improve and sometimes change features. If we materially reduce what a paid plan includes, we will tell subscribers before the change takes effect.

4. Billing and auto-renewal

Paid plans are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly through our payment processor, Stripe. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, for the same length, until you cancel. Each renewal is charged to your payment method at the then-current price. We will notify you before any price increase applies to your subscription. Prices do not include any taxes that may apply.

5. Free trial

New Pro subscribers may be offered a 7-day trial for a $1 fee. When the trial ends, your subscription continues automatically at $9.99 per month unless you cancel before the trial ends. The trial is limited to one per person, account and payment customer.

6. Cancelling

You can cancel any time from your account's subscription page or the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep paid access until then, and you will not be charged again.

7. Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, our payment processor will retry it for a period of time, and you keep your plan's access while it does. If payment still cannot be collected, your account moves to the free Standard plan.

8. Refunds

Payments are non-refundable, and we do not give refunds or credits for partial billing periods, except where the law requires it. We may grant a refund at our discretion if you contact us. Gift purchases are covered in section 10.

9. AI question credits

Pro subscribers may buy additional Context Engine question credits as a one-time purchase. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are non-refundable except where the law requires it.

10. Gifts

A gift is a one-time payment for a Plus or Pro plan for the period shown at purchase. Gifts do not renew and are never charged again. The recipient must redeem the gift within 90 days of purchase. The gift period starts when the gift is redeemed. A gift cannot be redeemed onto an account that already has an active paid subscription or an active gift. When the gift period ends, the account returns to the free Standard plan unless the recipient subscribes. An unredeemed gift can be refunded to the purchaser on request. A redeemed gift is non-refundable. Gift messages must follow section 12.

11. The Context Engine and AI-generated answers

The Context Engine and help assistant generate answers with artificial intelligence. Answers can be incomplete or wrong. They are a study aid, not an authority. Check them against Scripture and other sources. Each plan has its own question limits, shown on the pricing page. Do not submit sensitive personal information in your questions. We store your questions and answers as described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • copy, scrape or bulk-download content or data from the Service, by automated means or otherwise
  • get around plan limits, access controls or security measures, or access features your plan does not include
  • reverse engineer, overload or interfere with the Service
  • resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute the Service or its content
  • use notes, feedback or gift messages to post anything unlawful, harassing or abusive
  • misuse the AI features, including attempts to extract the underlying system or to generate abusive content

13. Content and intellectual property

The Service and its content, including text, maps, data, design and software, belong to OT in Context LLC or its licensors. Third-party images and materials are credited where shown and remain their owners' property. We give you a personal, non-commercial, non-transferable license to use the Service for study and teaching, under these Terms. You may quote brief excerpts with credit to OT in Context and a link to the source page.

You keep ownership of what you create in the Service, such as notes. You give us permission to store and process it to run the Service for you. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

14. Educational content and editorial perspective

The Service presents biblical history, geography and archaeology from the editorial perspective described on our site. Dates, locations and interpretations are often debated by scholars. Our content reflects our judgment on those questions, is provided for educational purposes, and is not professional advice of any kind.

15. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue features. We may restrict access to the Service from certain countries or regions.

16. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, including Stripe for payments, Google for sign-in and data storage, and Mapbox for maps. Your use of their services may also be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party services or for websites we link to.

17. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time (see our Privacy Policy). We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of any prepaid subscription.

18. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS.

19. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, OT IN CONTEXT LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR $50.

20. Indemnity

You agree to cover any claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

21. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Michigan, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.

22. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will notify you by email or in the Service before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
