Named for its characteristic ring-shaped base, this ware is most commonly found in the form of juglets, often interpreted as containers for perfumed oils, medicinal substances, or psychoactive materials such as opium.

Two primary variants exist:

• Base-Ring I: Dark gray to black burnished surface with applied relief decoration.

• Base-Ring II: Lighter, often reddish-brown ware with painted decoration, typically in white or cream.

Historical Context

Produced chiefly in Cyprus, Base-Ring ware reflects the island’s role as a major node in Late Bronze Age trade.
