Tim Lopez, also known as Tim López Eriksson, is an archaeologist with the Associates for Biblical Research, where he is an area supervisor at the excavations at Tel Shiloh and leads the excavation's conservation team.
Academic Career
Lopez holds a bachelor's degree in ancient history from Uppsala University, with minors in ancient and modern Hebrew, and a master's degree in classical archaeology from Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, awarded in 2009. Before Shiloh he excavated in Sweden with the Dalarnas Museum, at Empúries in Spain and at Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. He joined ABR for the first Shiloh season in 2017.
Major Works and Contributions
In 2018, as a square supervisor, he found a small ceramic pomegranate at Shiloh, and he is the first author of its publication, "A Ceramic Pomegranate from Shiloh", written with Scott Stripling and David Ben-Shlomo in Judea and Samaria Research Studies (2019). Pomegranates were a decorative motif of Israel's sanctuary furnishings and priestly garments (Exodus 28:33-34), which is why a pomegranate object from the site of the Tabernacle drew attention. He is also a co-author of the summary report on the 2025 Shiloh season.
